Azra
A Barnet resident with a family to care for

Azra, her husband and five children live in Barnet and are seeking asylum. During the pandemic she struggled to do shopping, feed her family and support her husband who was unable to leave the house due to living with COPD. She contacted Community Barnet’s Covid Wellbeing Response Service, who supported her with shopping and referred her to the IANL Community Support Group, based at the local mosque.  They provided Azra and her family with halal meals for everyday Iftar and provided the children the gifts for Eid.

‘Thanks from the bottom of my heart and the bottom of my five children’s little beautiful hearts. My fruit basket was empty and now it is filled with blessing and kindness from you all. I would like to again thank you and to send my best wishes and prayers to you all and to the volunteer Alice.’

This is a real-life case study based on stories provided by London Borough of Barnet and Community Barnet
